National identities, philosophy, and literature—Project Muse houses articles that cover a myriad of topics, primarily in the arts and humanities, but also including natural sciences. Many of the journals are university published and therefore subject to the peer-review process. Project Muse is owned and operated by Johns Hopkins University.

Start at Steely Library's homepage: http://library.nku.edu.
Click the Library Quick Links box.
Choose Articles & Databases. Then Click Go.

Select Project Muse.

**If you are working from off-campus, you will be asked to enter your NKU username and password.

Once you enter the database, here are some key features:

• An article search box on the right
• Browse journals option
• Ability to narrow your search to specific discipline areas

To search, enter search terms in the box on the right:

You can choose to search books and journals or just journals.

Important Note: We may not have access to the e-books that Project Muse offers in search results. If you decide that you want that book, please use the library’s SourceFinder service to have it sent to you from another library.

The first thing to notice is a key on the right hand side:

This key will tell you if we have access to the content or not. (This is useful to know when looking at the e-books which we may or may not have.)

Your results for your search will appear to the left of this box. You can then narrow your results by doing the following:

• Using the Modify Search link at the top to enter more search terms, narrow by date

• Use the controls on the left to narrow by research type, including field like literature, history, etc.

If you choose to use Modify Search, you will be presented with a screen that looks like this:

You can narrow by content, author's name, title of article, or research area. The plus button at the end of the 2nd row gives you the ability to add more rows to enter more search terms.

Once you find an item you like, you can click on the HTML or PDF option (whichever available) for downloading. Download options exist right below the title of the article or book.

At the top of every page is a Help link.

Project Muse Help houses an FAQ about the database and searching within it.
