Access Services Policies
Who May Borrow Materials:
Students, faculty, staff, and alumni with a current NKU picture ID. Other borrowers need a current ID plus a picture ID. Borrowing privileges are extended to the following groups:
- NKU faculty, staff, students, and alumni,
- Faculty, staff and students of the other seven Kentucky universities: Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky State University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University,
- Members of SWON who have been approved for SWON borrowing privileges, and
- Any resident of Kentucky over the age of 16 who has purchased a library card for the year for $10.00.
- Gateway Community College faculty, staff, and students
Loan Periods:
NKU faculty
- Due at the end of the current semester.
NKU staff
- 30 days
graduate students
- 42 days
Media Collections
- 14 days
All other categories
- 21 days
Renewals:
Regularly circulating items may be renewed for one additional loan period if the item has not been requested by another patron or for reserve status.
Online Hold Request:
Patrons may request that an item in Steely Library's circulating collection be held at the Circulation Desk for pickup. With an item on the screen in NKUIRE, Click the "PLACE A HOLD" tab. Provide the information at the prompt. Patrons are notified when the item is available, either by email or phone. The item will remain on hold for one week.
If a faculty member finds a title in NKUIRE that he/she would like to have delivered to their office, all that faculty member has to do is click on "Place a hold" in NKUIRE. Just supply the last eight digits of the All Card number and last name. Access Services will find the item, check it out to the faculty member and delivery it to their office.
