Steely Library Virtual Computer Labs

Students are able to access software such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Office, Minitab, Research Insight, and SPSS from home.  You can connect to the virtual desktop, Steely Library Lab, from personal devices (i.e., Windows computers, Macs, iPads, etc.).  For connection instructions, please visit, NKU View Information.

Computer Labs

Lab computers maintained by IT and Steely Library are available for use on four floors of the library.  IT maintains the 1st and 4th Floor Computer Labs and Steely Library maintains all other lab computers in the public areas of the building.  Lab computers are available for use during Steely Library's open hours.

  • 1st Floor - 34 Windows PCs and 8 Macs
  • 2nd Floor - 7 Windows PCs
  • 3rd Floor - 33 Windows PCs
  • 4th Floor - 28 Windows PCs, 10 Windows eContent PCs, and 4 Macs
  • Loggia/Lobby - 19 Windows PCs

Checkout Laptops

10 laptops are available for in-library use and can be checked out at the third floor Public Service Desk. Laptops may be checked out for 2 hours and must remain inside Steely Library at all times. You may also renew your laptop checkout 1 time. A fine of $6.00 per hour is charged for overdue laptops.

Disability Services Assistive Equipment & Software

Disability Services provides assistive software (i.e., Kurzweil 3000, Optelec, and Zoomtext) on the fourth floor of Steely Library.

The group study room computers, located in 131 and 133, also have speech recognition software, Dragon Naturally Speaking. To gain access to these rooms, check out the key at the third floor Public Service Desk.

Multimedia eContent Computers

There are 13 computers in Steely Library that have multiple Adobe software packages installed.  They are located on the 4th floor and in group study rooms 130, 131, and 133.  The Adobe software packages installed are listed below:

  • Acrobat XI Pro - Create, edit, and sign PDF documents and forms
  • After Effects CC - Cinematic visual effects and motion graphics
  • Audition CC - Audio recording, mixing, and restoration
  • Dreamweaver CC - Web and mobile design
  • Edge Animate CC - Create interactive and animated web content
  • Fireworks CS6 - Image editing for websites and apps
  • Flash Professional CC - Interactive experiences, game design, and mobile device packaging
  • Illustrator CC - Vector graphics and illustration
  • InCopy CC - Collaborate with copywriters and editors
  • InDesign CC - Page design and layout for print and digital publishing
  • Muse CC - Design and publish HTML websites without writing code
  • Photoshop CC - Image editing and compositing
  • Photoshop Lightroom CC - Digital photo processing and editing
  • Premier Pro CC - Video production and editing
  • SpeedGrade CC - Color correction and grading
