Installing the Public Printer using Windows 7
There are four steps to installing the Public Wireless Printer:
- Change the advanced sharing settings.
- Connect to the NKU_SECURE wireless network.
- Log into the NKU_SECURE wireless network.
- Install the public wireless printer.
1. Change the Advanced Sharing Settings
Open the Control Panel by clicking on Start and then Control Panel.

When the Control Panel opens, click on Network and Sharing Center. (Note: On some versions of Windows 7 the heading will be listed as Network and Internet.)

On the left hand side of the screen, click to choose Change advanced sharing settings.

When the "Change sharing options for different network profiles" window opens, click to choose both Turn on network discovery and Turn on file and printer sharing. Then click on the Save changes button at the bottom right hand corner of the screen to apply the changes.

The next step is to connect to the NKU_SECURE wireless network.
2. Connect to the NKU_SECURE Wireless Network
After saving the advanced sharing settings in the previous step, you will return to the "Network and Sharing Center" window. You will see the message: "You are currently not connected to any networks." Click on Connect to a network.

A list of available wireless network connections will appear. Click to highlight NKU_SECURE.

You will see the message: "Information sent over this network might be visible to others." Click on the Connect button to continue if you agree to these terms.

A window will open with the message: "Connecting to NKU_SECURE."

If the connection is successful, you will be returned to the "Network and Sharing Center" window and will see NKU_SECURE listed under the heading "View your active networks."

The next step is to log into the NKU_SECURE wireless network using your university account.
3. Log into the NKU_SECURE Wireless Network
Open a browser (i.e., Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox). The NKU_SECURE Web Authentication window will appear.

Type your NKU username in the User Name field, type your password in the Password field, and click the Submit button. If your university account is authenticated, you will receive the message: "Connection Successful. You can now use all our regular network services over the wireless network."

The next step is to install the public wireless printer.
4. Install the Public Wireless Printer
To install the public wireless printer, click on: Start button. Next, type run in the "Search programs and files" field and you will see "Run" listed under Programs. Click to highlight Run to open the Run program.

When the Run window opens, type\\nku065920\ in the "Open:" field and then click OK.

A "Windows Security" window will open prompting you for your network password. Type nku\ followed by your NKU username in the User name field and type your password in the Password field. Make sure there is a checkmark in the box next to Remember my credentials and then click OK.

If your university account is authenticated, a window will open showing the PublicPrinter on nku065920.

Next, click on Start and then Devices and Printers

The Devices and Printers window will open. Click on Add a printer.

The next window asks: "What type of printer do you want to install?" Click to highlight Add a local printer and then click Next.

The "Choose a printer port" window will open. Click to highlight Create a new port:, choose Local Port from the drop down list in the "Type of port:" field, and then click Next.

The "Port Name" window will then open. Type \\nku065920\PublicPrinter in the "Enter a port name:" field and then click OK.

When the "Install the printer driver" window opens, click to choose HP from the Manufacturer window. Next, click to choose HP LaserJet 4100 Series PCL6 from the Printers window, and then click the Next button.

When the "Type a printer name" window opens, type PublicPrinter in the "Printer name:" field and then click Next.

You will receive a message: "Installing printer . . .".

A Printer Sharing window will open. Click to select Do not share this printer and then click Next.

You will receive a message: "You've successfully added PublicPrinter." Click on the Finish button.

This completes the installation of the wireless public printer.
The printer should only need to be installed once. The next time you visit the library, just connect to the NKU_SECURE wireless network, open a browser to log into the NKU_SECURE wireless network, and then you'll be able to print to the PublicPrinter on nku065920 in Steely Library.
