Research and Instructional Services

Members of the Research & Instructional faculty and staff are available for assistance at the Information Desk on the third floor, plaza level, of Steely Library. (View a map of the 3rd floor.) Contact is also available by phone (859)572-5456 or online at Ask a Librarian.

Information Desk Hours

Service is available at the Information Desk all hours the library is open. Arrangements can be made at this desk, by phone, or via email request for specialized services with more limited hours.

Research Consultation Service

Faculty in the Research and Instructional Services Department are available to provide personalized assistance for individuals preparing for research projects and to NKU faculty designing course projects requiring student research. During these consultations, research strategies can be planned and key resources identified to enhance the project.

Appointments for these consultations can be scheduled at the Information Desk in Steely Library or by calling this Desk at (859)572-5456. For more information, please see Ask a Librarian.

Online Reference Assistance

Librarians in the Research and Instructional Services Department will provide answers to questions about library services, availability of resources, and basic factual data via e-mail or in a live chat session. Email questions are answered throughout the day when the library is open. Chat service hours are available at Ask a Librarian.

Reference Collection

The Research and Instructional Services Department offers reference sources used for basic information needs, as well as research guidance. The print titles, identified in NKUIRE by the location STEELY - REF, do not circulate. Electronic Sources are also available and may be accessed by all Library users on campus. Off-campus, the majority of these electronic reference sources are accessible with an NKU username and password via the EZproxy Server. For assistance for any of these resources ask at the Information Desk (3rd floor, (859 572-5456) or at our Ask a Librarian service.
