This page from the State Board of Elections offers information about registering to vote, voting by absentee ballot (especially useful for college students who are away from their home counties on election day), voting statistics, candidates, election law and election finance, and other topics. There is also a "find your legislator" feature allowing you to search for your senators and representatives by county or district. Or go directly to the voter registration form.

This national non-partisan, non-profit effort researches, tracks and provides to the public independent factual information on over 13,000 candidates and elected officials. Voting records, campaign issue positions, performance evaluations by special interests, campaign contributions, backgrounds, previous experience, and contact information are available.
Smart Voter, from the League of Women Voters of California
This web site seeks to do two things:
  • Provide voters with comprehensive nonpartisan information about the contests on their ballot in an easy-to-use presentation.
  • Provide a means for candidates to publish information about themselves and their candidacy directly to voters.
Currently the local information is for Ohio (Hamilton County) and California elections.
