CQ Researcher, weekly
Location: Reference Desk and Reference area. Also online: see our database list. A good starting place if you're looking for topic ideas. CQ Researcher covers a different subject each week -- usually a controversial issue or a topic that has recently been in the news. Recent topics include road rage, drinking on campus, diet aids, the economics of recycling, chemical and biological weapons, and gender equity in sports. Each issue includes an overview of the subject, an "at issue" section in which pro and con arguments are presented, and a bibliography of sources for further reading.
Information Plus series
Location: varying call numbers. This is a series of handbooks on current social problems, providing basic background and statistical information on such topics as domestic violence, water conservation, abortion and homelessness. Information Plus is the name of the publisher. Each book has a different title, so to find call numbers you must search in NKUIRE for the General Keyword phrase "information plus."
Opposing Viewpoints
Location: varying call numbers To see titles and dates available in the series, search NKUIRE for opposing viewpoints in Advance Search mode.
Contemporary World Issues series
Location: varying call numbers Each book in this series presents information on some current problem; for example, gun control, environmental hazards, domestic violence, or welfare reform. They are shelved according to subject, so their call numbers and locations will vary. To see what's available in this series, search in NKUIRE for the title Contemporary World Issues.
Encyclopedia of Applied Ethics
Location: REF BJ 63 .E44 1998 This reference source discusses a large number of fields in which there is general concern over human actions, for example advertising techniques, birth control, courtroom proceedings, business use of the environment and more. In these discussions, alternative positions, values, and solutions are summarized.
