Industry Codes
- NAICS/SIC Code United States Manual
- Location: REF HF 1042 .N34 1997x In 1997, the North American Industry Classification System replaced SIC codes for industries. NAICS was developed jointly by the U.S., Canada and Mexico so that business statistics across North America could be more easily compared. The manual provides tables matching old SIC numbers to new NAICS numbers (and vice versa), and is searchable by key word.

- Economic Census
- Location: Government Documents Area Coverage: 1972-present Every five years the U.S. Bureau of the Census surveys the business areas of wholesale trade, retail trade, service industries, manufacturers, and the construction industry. The results are published under the titles Census of Wholesale Trade, Census of Retail Trade, etc. Statistics are given for a broad range of items. Some of the statistics are compiled in a geographical arrangement; (for example, service industries in Kentucky), and some are by subject (for example, a study limited to minority-owned business).
- Standard and Poor's Industry Surveys
- Location: REF HC 106.6 .S74 Coverage: quarterly This reference work provides valuable data and analysis for 115 industries in the S and P 1500, covering latest industry trends, key ratios and statistics, composite industry data and comparative company analysis.
- Value Line Investment Survey
- Location: REF HG 4501 .V26 Coverage: weekly This is an investment service which analyzes and reports on company stocks from over 90 industries. Provides an overview and composite statistics for each industry as well as detailed information for selected stocks within that industry. (A subscription is required to access complete Investment Survey information online.)
- Robert Morris Associates (RMA). Annual Statement Studies
- Location: REF HF 5681 .B2 R6 This publication provides composite financial data and ratios for manufacturing, wholesaling, retailing, service and contracting industries. Included in the tables for each industry are balance sheet and profit and loss composites, as well as selected ratios. The tables are arranged alphabetically by industry within each broad line of business; there is also an index by SIC Code.
- Dun and Bradstreet Corp. Industry Norms and Key Business Ratios
- Location: REF HF 5681 .R25 K4x Coverage: annual Fourteen ratios such as current assets to current debts, net profit to net sales, etc. are presented for each of 800 lines of business. Arrangement is by SIC code.
- Almanac of Business and Industrial Financial Ratios
- Location: REF HF 5681 .R25 T68 Coverage: annual Financial and operating ratios for about 160 industries, including banks and financial industries, as well as the usual manufacturing, wholesaling, retailing industries are presented. Statistics are based on corporate activity during the latest year for which figures from IRS tax returns are published, so they are usually about three years old; however, this is one of the few sources for many of the service industries' ratios.
