Downloading and Reading eBooks

How Do I Download an Ebook?
Steely Library subscribes to several e-book collections. The EBSCO eBook Collection is a large collection that allows you to download an ebook to your desktop or mobile device.  Click here for a list of compatible devices.
Steps to download an ebook to your desktop or Android/Apple device:
  1. Download the free app, BlueFire Reader, from the iTunes store or Google Play.  If you want to download to your desktop computer, you must have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer.  This is a free download available at
  2. Navigate to the library's website.  Under the Databases tab, use the alphabetical list to connect to the EBSCO eBook Collection.
  3. Search for a book on a specific topic or browse by category.
  4. Select "Download (Offline)"
  5. You will be prompted to sign in with your "My EBSCOhost" account. If you’ve never created an account, click on "Create a New Account" to create a username/password.
  6. You will be presented with a checkout screen. Select the number of days you’d like to check out the item (days will vary by item)
  7. If you downloaded the Bluefire Reader app/Adobe Digital Editions in Step 1, you can immediately open and read the item.
