The Web has a variety of sites useful to the literature and language student. Here are just a few recommended ones:
- Voice of the Shuttle
- From Alan Liu at U.C. Santa Barbara. This is probably the most comprehensive site for humanities research, but unfortunately it is not selective -- the resources here are of uneven quality. The English Literature main page includes teaching resources as well as links to critical material, author pages, and more. It's organized by period and by genre. Also find Minority Literatures, Creative Writing, Theory, and Cultural Studies, among others.
- Literary Resources on the Net
- From Jack Lynch at Rutgers University . There are categories by time period, by genre, and by topic (Theory, Women's Literature, etc.) In most categories there is a collection of mailing lists, course syllabi, and links to archives, individual author pages, and other web resources.
- Poetry.com: The International Library of Poetry
- This site provides the full text of thousands of poems.
- Internet Public Library: Literature
- The Internet Public Library is hosted by The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology, with major support from the College of Information at Florida State University and its founder, the University of Michigan School of Information
- MIT Libraries: Internet Collections by Period, Genre, Etc.
- Literature resources from the MIT Libraries, which are organized by genre, period, and other categories
- University of Cambridge: The Virtual Classroom Glossary of Literary Terms
- A glossary of Literary Terms, from the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge
