netLibrary
General Information
Northern Kentucky University faculty, staff, and students may register for a netLibrary account. NetLibrary provides access to the Northern Kentucky University/Solinet Collection 3 and 4, as well as thousands of eBooks in netLibrary's publicly accessible collection.
Registering for a netLibrary Account
When registering for an account, it is important that you are logged on to a Northern Kentucky University computer. You may also follow a link to netLibrary from one of the Steely Library webpages. When you enter netLibrary by either of these two methods, netLibrary will be able to recognize you as a Northern Kentucky University - Steely Library patron. After you have your user account, you may log on via any computer, or follow the links from the NKUIRE catalog.
Using netLibrary
Once you locate a book in netLibrary, you may browse the book online (the complete text of the eBook IS available during browsing), or check the book out for 4 hours. You may not download netLibrary books; they must be read online.
Browsing an eBook - You may browse an eBook without logging in. Browsing an eBook is the equivalent of taking a book off the shelf and looking through it. While you are actively using it, no other user will have access to it. If 15 minutes elapses without active use, the book is "put back on the shelf" and another user will have access. You must use the red buttons at the top of the window to turn pages in Adobe Acrobat eBooks. The netLibrary interface presents one eBook page at a time, as a deterent to copyright infringement; but, the entire text of the eBook is available during browsing.
Checking out an eBook - To check out an eBook, you must first log in. Checking out an eBook gives you exclusive use of the eBook for 4 hours. The eBook is automatically returned when the checkout period expires.
When reading an ebook in netLibrary, please be sure to use the controls at the top of the page: the red back and forward arrows, and the Page # box. Users can print up to one page from any ebook.
