- Work on the glass elevator in Steely Library is set to begin December 19. There is another elevator several feet away near the stairwell that will remain open for use. The glass elevator will remain closed until work has been completed.

- Upgrading Facilities
Construction has begun in Steely Library to renovate a variety of public service areas. Specifically, improved service and instructional areas will be built on the 3rd floor. In addition, on the 1st floor collection space will be expanded study spaces will be enhanced with improved electrical wiring.
During this construction, some services and facilities will be located. Please check with the Information Desk for new locations or alternative services. Unfortunately, lamination service will not be available during the early stages of this construction. The staff at the Information Desk can also confirm when the lamination machines are again available.
Construction contractors are working prior to 8am to minimize disruption; however, at times there will be increased noise in the Library. We apologize for that inconvenience. No construction will be done during exam week.

- Beginning with the fall 2006 semester fines on overdue materials will be assessed at the rate of $.50 a day with a maximum of $15.00 per item. Reserve overdues will remain at $.25 an hour with a maximum of $25.00.

- Best-Selling Author Kim Edwards at Steely Library
- Wednesday, April 4, 7 p.m., Highland Heights Campus, W. Frank Steely Library - Loggia Kim Edwards, the Kentucky-based New York Times best selling author of The Memory Keeper's Daughter and author of a short story collection, The Secrets of a Fire King, which was an alternate for the 1998 PEN/Hemingway Award and has won both a Whiting Award and the Nelson Algren Award, will read from her work. A graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Edwards currently teaches writing at the University of Kentucky. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. The reading will be followed by a signing and a reception, with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of books donated to the Friends of Steely Library by the NKU Bookstore. - ProQuest Criminal Justice Periodicals Index - which "is a comprehensive database of U.S. and international criminal justice journals. The database includes abstracts and indexing for over 235 titles, with more than 80 available in full-text."
- The Chronicle of Higher Education - which "is the number one news and job-information source for college and university faculty members and administrators." NOTE: You can access it by clicking on the hyperlink above or by using NKUIRE.
- Aluka - which "includes a wide variety of high-quality scholarly materials contributed by Aluka's partners, ranging from archival documents, periodicals, books, reports, manuscripts, and reference works, to three-dimensional models, maps, oral histories, plant specimens, photographs, and slides. One of Aluka's primary objectives is to provide African scholars and students with access to scholarly materials originally from Africa, but now out of their reach."
