- Twenty hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters. Work schedules vary to accommodate Graduate Assistant and departmental needs, but will include day, night, and/or weekend hours. No work assignments will be made during University holidays.
- Job Description:
- The Learning Resource Collection of the Research and Instructional Services Division of Steely Library is seeking a Library Graduate Assistant for a one-year appointment. The assistantship will include 20 hours a week at a rate of $15.00 an hour. Through first-hand experience, the individual in this position will work with a vibrant curriculum materials collection composed of a variety of formats intended for use with preschool to grade 12 students. The individual will be involved in the development of the collection, creating search strategies to better access the collection, and participating in outreach endeavors associated with the collection. There will also be opportunity to learn about the variety of division activities such as individual reference assistance through in-library, email, and instant messaging. Involvement in the information literacy and research consultation programs may also be possible. Work schedule will be somewhat flexible, but typically evening and/or weekend shifts would be included in the regular schedule.
- Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a basic reference course; comfortable with web page design and use of Microsoft Office programs; excellent oral communication skills; familiarity with children’s literature or young adult literature; familiarity with educational resources used in the preK-12 environment; a commitment to the educational role of academic reference faculty; an ability to work well with library users with varying levels of information literacy experience and skills; ability to work in collaborative relationships with a variety of library faculty.
