Reserve Services for Gateway Patrons
General Information
Steely Library maintains reserve collections, in traditional and electronic formats, to support the instructional requirements of Gateway Community and Technical College faculty and students.
Electronic Reserves
The electronic reserve system enables instructors to present class materials to students, over the internet. The system also allows instructors to comply with the copyright laws of the United States government by:
- Displaying a notice, consistent with the notice described in Section 108(f)(1) of the Copyright Act. The notice includes additional language cautioning against further electronic distribution of the digital work.
- Organizing, storing, and retrieving materials in a manner that limits access to students registered in the course for which the items have been reserved. Electronic reserves are password protected.
Visit Steely Library's Electronic Reserve system.

Traditional Reserves
Steely Library's Reserves Department is located on the third floor, behind the main Circulation desk.
The department maintains the Reserve Collection. This collection is composed of materials placed on restricted status by faculty. These materials are used for class assignments and change each semester.
Reserves are accepted, processed, and maintained at the main Circulation Desk.
Reserve items may be borrowed for 2 hours, 24 hours, 3 days, or 1 week based on faculty request.
Fines for reserve items accrue at the rate of 25 cents per item, per hour the library is open, up to $25.00 per item.
PLACING ITEMS ON RESERVE
- Bring materials to be placed on reserve to the Library Circulation Desk.
- Complete the Reserve Processing Form. Include the complete bibliographic citation. For a part of a book, include a copy of the title page and the verso of the title page (back of the title page).
- Allow five working days for processing reserves. Reserves are processed on a first come first served basis. Approximately four weeks are needed for processing items for which Steely Library will be obtaining copyright permission.
For copyright compliance information see the library's copyright page.
