- Can I check out materials without my NKU picture ID?
- The only acceptable substitute is a combination of:
- A picture ID, such as a driver's license
- A copy of your current registration, class schedule, or receipt from the Bursar
- What is the check-out period for most items?
- Items from the Steely Circulating Collections are loaned for 21 days to most borrowers. Reserve items are loaned for varying periods; from 2 hours, library use only, to one week.
- How many times can I renew an item?
- Regularly circulating items may be renewed one time, if the item has not been requested by another patron. Reserve items, and Media Collection items may not be renewed.
- Do I have to bring the item in, to request a renewal?
- No, renewal requests can be accepted in person, by telephone, or by email.
- What is the overdue fine rate?
- Fines for regularly circulating items are 50 cents per day for each day the library is open. The fine for Reserve items is 25 cents per hour.
- Is there a grace period for overdue items?
- There is a five day grace period for regularly circulating items. On the sixth day that an item is overdue, the fine is $1.25 per item.
- What is the maximum fine per item?

- Reserve items - $25.00
- What if I lose an item?
- The replacement cost is $75.00, plus a $10.00 processing fee.
- What happens if I find the lost item after I've paid for it?
- Notify a Circulation supervisor, when the item is returned. A refund request can be made for the replacement cost. The check will be mailed to you, from the Accounts Payable Department, usually within seven working days.
- Where can I go if I left my ID in the copy machines?
- Inquire at the main Circulation Desk. ID's are subsequently returned to the All Card Office in the University Center.
- How much are photocopies?
- 10 cents per single-sided copy, 5 cents with an NKU ID or copy card.
- Can I check-out materials, if I'm not affiliated with Northern Kentucky University?
- Yes, there are several ways you can get a library card:
- Greater Cincinnati Library Consortium patrons will be issued a card upon presentation of a picture ID and a valid library card from a GCLC member library.
- Residents of Kentucky, 16 years of age or more, can obtain a library card by paying a $10.00 yearly subscription fee.
