OCLC is the largest bibliographic utility in the world. It is located in Dublin, Ohio. It is used by over 24,117 libraries in 62 countries and contains over 36,000,000 bibliographic records.

OCLC's WORLD CAT is built by contributions from member libraries like NKU and the Library of Congress. These records are input in a standardized format capable of being downloaded and manipulated by various computers. Catalog librarians must have command of thousands of pages of rules and standards in order to ensure that a record added to the database will be just as beneficial to a library in another country as to their own.
